Drake and J. Cole lyrics slammed by autism community

Lyrics which feature in a track by Drake and J. Cole have caused outrage within the autism community resulting in an online petition asking for a public apology from the artists.

The single titled Jodeci Freestyle was released on Saturday, June 22 and includes the line: “I’m artistic, you n****s is autistic, retarded.”

A petition asking for the apology was started on July 13 by Anna Kennedy and the Anti-Bullying Alliance which asks for the phrase to be removed from the song.

Kennedy, who has two autistic children, was given an Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Queen’s Honours list this year for her efforts with autistic children in the United Kingdom.

The petition has already gathered over 2,400 signatures. Says Kennedy: “It is time we recognised people with autism for the exceptional human beings they are, and make more of a stand.”

The petition can be found here.

Kanye West has recently offended the a UK charity for Parkinson’s disease, who hit back at a lyric on the rapper’s new album Yeezus which says “get this b****h shaking like Parkinson’s”.
