UPDATE: HMV shuts Birmingham store

UPDATE: Contrary to earlier reports in the regional business press, HMV has confirmed that only one UK store has been closed this week.

Music and DVD retailer HMV shut the doors of its Birmingham High Street branch on Sunday.

A sign in the window of the Birmingham High Street branch advised customers to visit the nearby Bullring store or purchase HMV products online.

An HMV spokesperson said: "Like any retailer we review our estate all the time, particularly as leases come to an end, and in Birmingham we remain well-represented with a major store in the Bullring centre and an out-of-town site in the nearby Fort Shopping Park."

Simon Fox left his post as HMV CEO last month to be replaced by former Jessops CEO Trevor Moore.

The retailer looks to develop its multi-channel offering to customers with the roll out of ‘multi-channel cafés’ offering free Wi-Fi and charging points as well as products and services.
