How to politely tell a TV company asking to use your music for free to sod off

It's a common complaint from creatives in the music business - a TV company asks to use their music, without any budget 'available' to pay them for their skills.

Some performers react with silence, some give them short shrift, and some - desperate for the exposure on offer - unfortunately acquiesce to a monetary-free agreement.
