Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye featuring Kimbra has been honoured as the most-played video across the VIMN International Media Networks' 60 MTV channels as part of the MTV Video Play Awards.

The track by Gotye wins the double-platinum award from the Networks (for plays of over 20,000) which is also awarded to Carly Rae Jepsen and Fun. for Call Me Maybe and Grammy-winning track We Are Young, respectively. Fun. also bagged a platinum award for their single Some Nights.

Other artists taking home two platinum awards include Maroon 5 for Payphone featuring Wiz Khalifa and One More Night, Katy Perry for Wide Awake and Part of Me, Rihanna for Where Have You Been and We Found Love and David Guetta for Titanium featuring Sia and Turn Me On featuring Nicki Minaj.

The top 50 videos were aired in total over 550,000 times across 60 MTV channels around the world (excluding all MTV US channels) over the course of 2012. Three videos won double platinum, each achieving over 20,000 plays, 25 videos gained Platinum status for over 10,000 plays each, while 22 further videos gained Gold status with more than 5000 plays.
Bruce Gillmer, executive vice president Music and Talent/Programming, Events, MTV Networks International commented: “The MTV Video Play Awards highlight our unwavering commitment to connecting music fans with their favorite artists.

In addition, the massive number of spins accrued across this year’s top 50 clearly demonstrates that the music video format is alive and well and MTV has an unrivalled catalogue readily available anytime, anywhere.”

The MTV Video Play Awards are part of MTV’s commitment to supporting new acts, championing up-and-coming artists and launching them around the world. Six of the 50 videos were MTV PUSH artists throughout 2012, MTV’s global campaign that promotes the new talent to audiences across all platforms. The six PUSH artists who won awards are Gotye , Carly Rae Jepsen, Fun., Of Monsters and Men, Rita Ora and Rudimental.
MTV’s Platinum and Gold Video Play Awards were launched in 2007 to celebrate the most-played music videos across the global MTV network. To create the awards, 60 MTV music channels from across the globe provided data on their most played music videos from the period January 1- December 31, 2012. Videos played more than 5000 times received a Gold award, those played over 10,000 times received a Platinum award and 20,000 plays resulted in a Double Platinum Award.
