Music Week Awards nominations announced

The newly-announced nominations reveal Gorillaz are shortlisted in the Artist Marketing Campaign opposite fellow Parlophone act Tinie Tempah, Polydor's Take That and Mercury's Rihanna and Arcade Fire.

Four of the acts vying for this award also pick up nominations in other categories with campaigns for Take That's Progress, Rihanna's Loud and Tinie Tempah's Disc-overy up for PR Campaign of The Year, while a Gorillaz campaign with Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 Beta is shortlisted for Music and Brand Partnership of the Year.

Among the major record companies, Universal leads the field with 12 nominations for its artists, including four in Catalogue Marketing, while EMI picks up seven nominations and Sony and Warner three apiece. This is the same tally as Proper, which is shortlisted for Sales Team of the Year, Distributor of the Year and Independent Artist Marketing Campaign for Bellowhead's Hedonism where it faces Ministry of Sound (Example), Buzzin' Fly/Strange Feeling (Tracey Thorn) and Coperative/Kitsune (Two Door Cinema Club).

Amazon has been nominated in the Consumer-Facing Digital Music Service category and Music Retail Brand with its competition including HMV, while last year's Studio of the Year winner Abbey Road is shortlisted in the same category again.

This year's awards take place on May 24 at The Roundhouse in Camden where PPL chairman and CEO Fran Nevrkla will receive The Strat in recognition of an outstanding contribution to the music industry. Alongside the awards shortlisted below, other awards given out on the night will be Record Company of the Year, Independent Record Company of the Year, Manager of the Year, the A&R Award, Publisher and Independent Publisher of the Year and a new award recognising International Achievement.
