[PIAS] expands into US

[PIAS] will open a US office in New York in June, headed up by Sean Maxson, who was previously general manager for Co-Op USA.

[PIAS] acquired Co-Op from Universal Music for an estimated £500,000 in a deal that was cleared by EC regulators in March. Co-Op was a related divestment of the major’s buyout of EMI Music.

Maxson’s [PIAS] America office will be adding to its staff over the next few months, initially looking after [PIAS] Recordings artists and [PIAS] Cooperative labels - a similar setup to how the company operates in Australia.

“Moving forward we want to develop this in an all-encompassing service model in line with our other operations, working closely with our US distribution partner” explained [PIAS] Group MD Edwin Schroter to Music Week.

"Together with our labels and local partners we have been gradually building [PIAS] from a pan-European company to a global operation. The opening of a New York office with a dedicated [PIAS] team is an exciting but natural step in our localized approach to building a global business and worldwide independent network for labels and artists”

The move into the US increases [PIAS]' total number of international offices to 10. Its existing local offices in France, Germany, Scandinavia, Italy and Australia have taken on additional dedicated Co-Op staff, whilst in Germany [PIAS] has kept Berlin office in addition to its office in Hamburg.

“I couldn't be more ecstatic to join Kenny, Edwin and the [PIAS] team and the incredible international network they've built," said Maxson. "The opportunity has never been greater to establish [PIAS] as a leader in the independent community in America.  I am looking forward to being a part of [PIAS]'S expansion into this territory, as well as assisting our artists and labels to reach their full potential."

Added Schroter: “The success of our local operations is all about the amazing people running them and I am thrilled to have someone as experienced and passionate as Sean coming on board to set up our new US office.”
