Sony BMG US admits to payola tactics

Sony BMG US has today agreed to make a settlement payment of £10m and reform its radio promotion activities after being found guilty of employing payola tactics by New York state attorney general Eliot Spitzer.
 
The major label has agreed to both halt the practice of making payments to radio stations in favour of gaining airplay for particular artists and has signed up to a programme of what have been described as "sweeping reforms".
