SoundCloud close to deal with Universal - report
SoundCloud is said to be close to signing a deal with a second major label - Universal.
Sources report that Universal Music Group has been chasing a significant equity stake in SoundCloud in exchange for licensing rights, plus guarantees on a future subscription-based tier.
If the deal goes through, it will follow previous agreements between the streaming service and Merlin, the NMPA and Warner, which is said to own a 5% equity stake.
