Spotify has surpassed 6 million paying subscribers, as its active user base tops 24 million consumers.

The new figure means a jump of 1 million subscribers for the streaming service since December.

Spotify CEO and co-founder Daniel Ek is expected to reference the figures in his SXSW talk with Forbes associate editor Steven Bertoni in which he will talk about the future of Spotify and how people listen to songs.

Along with the new figures, Spotify reiterated its presence in 20 countries, with a library of 20 million globally licensed songs, and the fact that it has paid over half a billion dollars to rightsholders since launch.

Spotify's paying subscriber base hit 4 million in July last year, then topped the 5 million mark in December.
