Team Rock Limited – the new owner of Classic Rock and Metal Hammer magazines – is to launch a national digital radio station in May.
The station will broadcast on the national digital audio broadcasting (DAB) platform Digital One and will not carry any spot advertising.
Discussing the new venture, Team Rock chief executive, Billy Anderson, said: "All rock stations in the UK seem to play the same rock songs. That's fine but we are not a classic rock station. Instead, we celebrate the whole spectrum of rock music. Too many great bands go unplayed.
"Spot advertising on niche radio stations is an outdated model. While Team Rock is a much wider business, radio will play an important role in our development. This station will be specifically targeted at a community we know is both passionate and valuable. We will name the radio team in due course."
Team Rock is headed up by former GMG Radio chief executive John Myers. The £10.2m purchase of the two Future titles was announced on Tuesday.
