Twitter has confirmed its acqusition of We Are Hunted, a San Francisco-based music start-up that tracks the most popular songs across the internet.
The news was first reported in March when CNET said the social networking site is to launch its own standalone music app.
It now appears the We Are Hunted brand will be retired and Twitter will launch the app using the acquired technology.
