Virgin Media blocks Newzbin2

Virgin Media has become the latest ISP to block Newzbin2, following of BT and Sky who blacklisted the pirate site last year.

The move comes after Virgin Media received a court order from the Motion Picture Association.

The ISP said in a statement: "As a responsible ISP, Virgin Media complies with court orders addressed to the company, but strongly believes that changing consumer behaviour to tackle copyright infringement also needs compelling legal alternatives to give consumers access to great content at the right price."

BT received a similar court order in October last year, which at the time gave it 14 days to establish a block against the site.

Questions were raised, however, over the effectiveness of the measures that were subsequently put in place.
