YouTube’s music subscription has been ‘delayed’ until the beginning of next year.
Despite no official confirmation from the company, speculation surrounding a new premium YouTube music platform is strong, with reports in October suggesting a launch before the end of the year.
But now, according to sources close to All Things D, the new service won’t arrive until Q1 2014.
The insiders say that, while YouTube has all the licenses it needs, it isn’t yet satisfied with the product itself.
Details about what the service might look like appeared to leak in code for a YouTube update at the end of last month, suggesting it could offer uninterrupted, ad-free music on millions of songs available for offline play.
