James Bay, Ed Sheeran and Zayn up for Song Of The Year at BMI London Awards

BMI has unveiled the contenders for its Song Of The Year honour at the BMI London Awards. The ceremony takes place at the The Dorchester, London on October 9.

Songwriter artists Zayn and James Bay are both nominated – the former One Direction singer is recognised for Pillowtalk and Bay makes the grade with Let It Go.

DJ Paleface & Kyla are also in contention for their contributions to One Dance by Drake. Last year’s winner Ed Sheeran is nominated for Love Yourself, performed by Justin Bieber.

Alexander Palmer is also a contender for Somewhere On A Beach, performed by Dierks Bentley.

BMI's Song Of The Year award is given to the most performed song of the year on US radio by UK or European writers represented in the performing rights organisations's catalogue.

UK talent has taken the award in the last two years: Sam Smith grabbed the honours with Stay With Me in 2015 and Sheeran won for Thinking Out Loud last year.

Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay will receive the BMI President’s Award at the ceremony.
