Sony/ATV celebrates five years at top of US publishing rankings

Sony/ATV Music Publishing has achieved five consecutive years as the No.1 music publisher in the US.

It is Sony/ATV’s 20th consecutive quarter at the top of the rankings, which are compiled every three months by Billboard and are determined by music publishers’ market share of the Top 100 US radio airplay songs for the last quarter, according to Nielsen Music data and song splits compiled by the Harry Fox Agency. The latest survey covers the period April to June 2017.

“Being in first place for five years doesn’t happen by accident, but is a tribute to the immense talent of our songwriters, the amazing songs they create and the hard work of our team," said Sony/ATV chairman and CEO Martin Bandier. "It is an amazing accomplishment and one we are very proud of.”

The publisher achieved a 23.3% market share and was represented on 49 of the Top 100 songs on US radio during Q2 2017. Nine of the quarter’s Top 10 radio songs are co-published by Sony/ATV, led by the Bruno Mars hit That’s What I Like, which is the period’s No. 1 hit, and Shape Of You by Ed Sheeran. The Sheeran hit spent 12 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s weekly Radio Songs airplay chart, the joint longest chart-topping run on the chart this decade.

Below are Sony/ATV’s songs in the Q2 Top 10:

No.1 “That’s What I Like” by Bruno Mars (Sony/ATV(s) writer Ray Romulus)

No. 2 “Shape Of You” by Ed Sheeran (Ed Sheeran, Kandi Burruss, Tameka Cottle)

No. 3 “Something Just Like This” by The Chainsmokers & Coldplay (Andrew Taggart)

No. 4 “Stay by Zedd feat. Alessia Cara (Alessia Cara, Sarah Aarons, Anders Froen, Jonnali Parmenius)

No. 5 “It Ain’t Me” by Kygo feat. Selena Gomez (Kygo)

No. 9 “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee feat. Justin Bieber (Luis Fonsi, Erika Ender)

No. 10 “Scars To Your Beautiful” by Alessia Cara (Alessia Cara, Warren Felder)

Sony/ATV first led Billboard’s Publishers Quarterly in Q3 2012 and has been No. 1 in every subsequent survey. Its top ranking US radio airplay song annually since then has been:
