DJ Semtex joins Capital Xtra for new Friday night show

DJ Semtex is set to join Capital Xtra to host a brand new Friday night hip-hop show.

The news comes following the DJ’s departure from BBC Radio 1Xtra, and the first show will air tonight and every Friday from 9-11pm.

Semtex served at 1Xtra for 15 years, and departed shortly before Charlie Sloth announced plans to leave the station next month. Sloth’s next destination is likely to be Apple, sources at the company have confirmed to Music Week.

I want to make some of the best radio moments possible

DJ Semtex said: “It’s an honour to be at Capital XTRA. I think what they’ve been doing is amazing, it typifies the UK experience. It’s great to be working alongside some good friends, some legendary DJs and some of the sickest emerging DJs. I just want to get down, do my thing, and make some of the best radio moments possible.”

Semtex’s new role will run alongside his commitments at Sony as director, artist development and as host of Spotify’s Who We Be Talks podcast.

Last year, the DJ spoke to Music Week about his role in the development of Black Butter rapper J Hus.
