Drake breaks Ed Sheeran's Spotify record

Drake has set two new Spotify streaming records with his new playlist, More Life. 

Released on Sunday (March 19), the 22-track mixtape recorded the best first day streams for an album, totalling 61,302,082 streams on its first full day. The previous record holder was Ed Sheeran, whose ÷ LP was streamed 56,727,861 times on March 3.

Drake also claims Sheeran's record for the best one day streams for an artist - 76,355,041, compared with Sheeran's total of 68,695,172.

More Life’s tracks also received 89.9m streams in the album’s first 24 hours of release on Apple Music - a new single-day record for streams of songs from an album on the service.

More Life - intended to bridge the gap between his major releases is described as Drake's "debut playlist" and features guest vocalists including Young Thug, Skepta, GiggsQuavoTravis Scott2 ChainzKanye West, and PartyNextDoor.

Earlier this week, Drake became the first artist to top 10 billion Spotify streams. The rapper was already the service's most streamed act of last year, receiving more than 4.7bn global Spotify streams, while his UK No.1 hit One Dance was the most streamed track of 2016 and is Spotify’s most popular song ever.
