Skepta joins the line-up for Hyundai Mercury Prize show

Skepta has been added to the line-up for this year’s Hyundai Mercury Prize awards show.

The rapper, who won last year with his No.2, gold selling album Konnichiwa, will perform alongside Alt-J, Blossoms, Dinosaur, Glass Animals, J Hus, Kate Tempest, Loyle Carner, Sampha, Stormzy, The Big Moon and The xx, all of whom are shortlisted. Ed Sheeran is the 12th nominee.

Actor and DJ Idris Elba will also appear at the ceremony, which takes place on September 14 at London’s Eventim Apollo, as a guest presenter.

Elba said: “The Hyundai Mercury Prize is a huge moment in the music calendar and I’m so happy to be involved. It is so important that we continue to celebrate the album as a work of art and this is a special night to celebrate the incredible shortlisted artists.”

The ceremony will be hosted by BBC Radio 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne and will be broadcast on BBC Four and 6 Music. BBC Two will broadcast a special preview documentary on September 10.
