Stormzy teases new music on London billboards

Could Stormzy’s new album be coming out next month?

Billboards spotted today (January 30) around London have led to speculation that the Croydon MC will release new music on February 24.

Alongisde the rapper’s ‘#MERKY’ logo and lines that could be lyrics, the phrase ‘#GSAP 24.02’ appears on the black and white posters, seen by fans in Hammersmith, Shoreditch and other locations in the capital.

Speculation around Stormzy’s next release has intensified in recent months, amidst rumours that he’s working with producers including Mo and Mikey Samuels and Fraser T. Smith.

His biggest selling release so far is 2015 single Shut Up, which was boosted by a campaign to help it become Christmas No.1 in 2015. It peaked at No.8 and has 558,869 sales to date.

Stormzy is nominated alongside Skepta in the British Breakthrough category at the BRIT Awards, which take place on February 22, two days before the date specified on the billboards.

The voting academy for 2017 was overhauled to promote greater gender and ethnic diversity, and the rapper was involved in those discussions, meeting with BPI chairman Ged Doherty to discuss his concerns.

Is Stormzy now planning to make an extra large splash during BRITs week?
