'This record's only going to get bigger': Syco's Tyler Brown looks ahead to Camila Cabello at the EMAs

Following her ascent to the UK singles chart summit, Camila Cabello’s solo No. 1 Havana will get a further boost with her performance at the MTV EMAs at SSE Arena Wembley on Sunday (November 12). The 24th edition of the event marks its return to London after an absence of 21 years.

The former Fifth Harmony member is on course to stay on top this week according to the Official Charts Company. Speaking in the latest issue of Music Week, Syco managing director Tyler Brown said her return to the UK will build on the success of the single featuring Young Thug, which reached No.1 in its 13th chart week on Friday (November 3).

“The exposure on that level is great for her, the EMAs gets a lot of PR coverage across Europe, not just the UK,” he said. “I know the record’s still building outside the UK as well and will continue to do so in Europe and America. It will only benefit her in terms of awareness.”

He added: “She’s got huge potential, and this record’s only going to get bigger.”

For her to go out there and make a statement like that is very brave

Brown said Cabello made a huge impact with her three-track Radio 1 Teen Awards performance, also at SSE Arena, Wembley, last month.

“I think it was the first time a lot of people had seen her live on her own,” he said. “Obviously she’s been over here with Fifth Harmony and toured with them and done TV shows – they were on The X Factor a couple of times. But I think this was the first time people have seen her do more than one song. For her it was a fantastic time to do it because the record’s really connecting. When she came out and did Havana she was blown away by the reaction of the crowd and how they sang along to it.”

The seven-minute video for Havana, which dropped on October 24, has already passed 118 million YouTube views.

“It’s one of the best music videos I’ve seen for years,” said Brown. “For her to go out there and make a statement like that is very brave – it’s all her vision.”

As well as Camila Cabello, the MTV EMAs will feature U2's performance in Trafalgar Square in celebration of their Global Icon award.
