Making Waves: Snail Mail

Making Waves: Snail Mail

Key Track: Thinning
Label: Matador
Management: Another Management Company
Twitter: @Snailmailband

Who: Eighteen-year-old fireball, singer and guitar whizz Lindsey Johnson.

What: Ragged indie-rock with guitar lines that shred, man. Johnson’s lyrics and vocal delivery intensify things no end.

Where: Originally from Baltimore, Johnson now resides in Brooklyn.

So, Snail Mail are a big hope for 2018 then?
Yes indeed. Snail Mail have ticked off the big US new artist pieces (Pitchfork, Fader) and Johnson has already featured in the New York Times. Her signing to Matador was announced earlier this year, and she’s toured with Priests, Girlpool and Waxahatchee.

That paints a nice picture of the snail mail sound…

Doesn’t it just. Priests’ Sister Polygon Records released 2016’s Habit EP, while the classically-trained Johnson learned from Mary Timony (Wild Flag, Ex Hex).

Her way with six strings and an amp is gnarly, check out September’s Tiny Desk Concert for proof.

When are the UK dates
, then?

January. Don’t forget your earplugs.
