AIM confirms AGM details, invites applications for Your Big Idea

The Association of Independent Music (AIM), which represents over 800 independent music companies in the UK, has confirmed the date of its Annual General Meeting (AGM), which this year takes place on Tuesday September 20 at Glaziers Hall, London. Starting at 2pm a full programme of events is planned for the day including a keynote address from AIM’S departing Chairman and CEO Alison, on-stage discussions and the AIM council elections, which will see new members join the organisation’s board of directors. Full details of these activities will be announced in the near future. AIM is also reintroducing its Your Big Idea session for the first time since its 10th Anniversary AGM in 2009. Your Big Idea sees AIM inviting ideas from its membership that will become agenda setting policies, initiatives or campaigns moving forward.

Global background music report published

Research and Markets has published a report called Global Background Music Market 2016-2020. The global background music market to grow at a CAGR of 2.89% during the period 2016-2020.  The report states that one of the challenges hampering market growth will be the availability of royalty-free background music. Many online portals such as Purple Planet, Premium Beat, and Productiontrax provide royalty-free background music for commercial use. The licensing fee varies depending on the customer's use and selected tracks. Many free-to-use tracks available online just require the customer to credit the owner of the track.

Olympic Gold Medalist Shaun White sued by former drummer

Two-Time Olympic Gold Medalist and X Games Champion Shaun White is being accused of sexually harassing Lena Zawaideh, the former female drummer with his rock band, Bad Things. “It is shocking and appalling to see a national role model act with such disregard to women in the workplace. Considering Mr. White became famous for his long hair and snowboarder persona, who ever thought we would see the day that Shaun White terminates someone who refuses to cut her hair. This type of gender harassment and discrimination does not belong in the workplace,” said Ms. Zawaideh’s lead trial attorney Lawrance Bohm of the Bohm Law Group.

Hamish Macdonald Joins Nylon Studios as Global Executive Producer

“Sound house” Nylon Studios has appointed Hamish Macdonald as business partner and global executive producer. Macdonald’s international experience spans both short and long format content, most recently strengthening the Method Studios brand across Asia as head of business development. He has also produced photographic TV series ‘Tales By Light’ for the National Geographic Channel and was post production supervisor on the successful Feature Film ‘The Mule’. He worked as EP at XYZ Studios and Illoura and was a producer at Exit Films.

Apple Music signs deal with Cash Money Records

Apple Music has reportedly signed a deal with Cash Money Records for a film about te record company and its CEO Birdman. Apple Music head of content Larry Jackson posted a picture with himself and Birdman on Instagram confirming the deal. "Welcome to the fam @birdman5star," wrote Jackson. "Tough negotiator. Much respeck." (Billboard)

Calvin Harris is the world's highest paid DJ

DJ and producer Calvin Harris earned $63 million in the last year, making him the world's highest paid DJ, four years in row, according to Forbes' latest Electronic Cash Kings list. In second place is Tiesto, on $38m and at No.3 is David Guetta on $28m.
