Big Interview: The BBC's Mark Strippel

Mark Strippel had a slightly unusual entry into BBC management. The BBC Asian Network’s head of programmes first joined the Beeb as an on-air presenter and DJ on BBC 1Xtra when it launched and was known then as Markie Mark.

“It doesn’t happen often for someone on one side to cross over to the other, but it helps,” says Strippel. “We had a show called Desi Beats, which was like an urban Asian show with seasoned rappers and everything else.”
