Bandcamp has paid £50m to indie artists in 5 years since launch

Bandcamp is reportedly on track to double its pay out to independent artists over the next 18 months.

The sales and marketing platform says it has paid out a total of £50 million since launching five years ago and has high hopes for the next year and a half.

A recently launched mobile app and "some other things” in development means that figure will reach $100 million in the next 18 months or less, according to a blog post.

"Even five years in, it still feels like we’ve just scratched the surface of the enormous opportunity in front of us," said the Bandcamp team.

"That opportunity - to positively impact the lives of millions of artists and their fans - is something we’re incredibly grateful for, and we’re more excited than ever about the work we have planned. Once again, thank you for being a part of it all!"
