Bjork invites Pussy Riot to collaborate

Bjork has written a public defence of Russian punk band Pussy Riot.

In February, the band - made up of Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 22, Yekaterina Samutsevich, 29, and Maria Alekhina, 24 - played an anti-Putin 'punk prayer' in a Moscow cathedral. It asked the Virgin Mary to remove Putin from power.

A month later, charged with hooliganism motivated by religious hatred or hostility. The trio have pleaded not guilty.

"As a musician and mother I would like to express I fiercely don’t agree with them being put to jail because of their peaceful protest performance, " Bjork wrote on her website tonight. "They are currently standing trial and facing seven years in prison for this.

"In my opinion the Russian authorities should let them go home to their families and children.

"I would like to invite Pussy Riot to join me in a particularly song on stage – which was written for all enhancement of justice (you can guess: once, which one).

"Warmth, Bjork."

Bjork joins the likes of Madonna, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Jarvis Cocker and Pete Townshend in supporting Pussy Riot.
