BPI expected to demand removal of 12 million pirate files this year

The BPI is expected to demand the removal of more than 12 million internet files in 2012, according to a report by the IP Crime Group.

The annual report revealed that BPI has already requested the deletion of more illegal online music files in 2012 so far than the total 4,298,729 files that were “identified and removed” in the whole of 2011 – leading the report to state that the total figure for 2012 is “likely to be in excess of 12 million.”

It is estimated that counterfeit goods costs the UK an estimated 4.1 billion Euros in lost taxes and higher welfare spending as well as around 31,000 jobs, according to a report by the Business Action to Stop Counterfeiting and Piracy (BASCAP).
