Beats Music has appointed Julie Pilat to head curation and artist development for the streaming service.
Pilat has held a number of titles at Clear Channel over the past 20 years including Alternative Brand Coordinator, program director for LA rock station KYSR, assistant PD/music director of KIIS-FM and booker of the iHeartRadio concert.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about getting the role, Pilat said,” To change the path for the future of music is the opportunity of a lifetime… I couldn’t say no.”
The exec suggested that, while there’s now a lot of competition in the music streaming sector, curation features across rival services hasn’t yet reached the level that Beats Music is aiming for.
“If you know what you want to listen to, you pull it up, but if you don't, you get stuck,” she said. “Curation will find that community with a true passion for music. That’s what's going to set us apart.”
