Simon Cowell is looking to sell all or part of his Syco Entertainment JV with Sony, according to the New York Post.
Sources for the US publication have said that the music and TV mogul behind the X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent (as well as its global equivalents) wants Sony to buy him out, but he’s also had interest from “other parties”.
“Sony could extend the deal or buy him out,” another source said. “It could go either way.”
The Post’s insiders suggest that there have been on-and-off talks that have been going on for around a year and a half, but they’re not currently active.
Cowell is, however, looking to “map out Syco’s future”, according to the Post, and is taking advise from UK retail investor Philip Green, who has a small stake in the company.
In March this year, Syco Entertainment announced that it intended to launch a global online talent contest with YouTube, seeking unconventional and original talents, including musicians.
