Irish courts pave way for 'three strikes' anti-piracy policy

In what has been described as a landmark decision, the ruling lays the foundations for the introduction of new graduated response measures to stem filesharing in Ireland.

The High Court's ruling considered the terms of a settlement in February 2009 between Eircom, Ireland's largest ISP, and IRMA, the Irish record label association. Eircom agreed to implement a graduated response policy for filesharers, starting with warning letters.
