A quarter of YouTube videos are now viewed via mobile devices.
The video platform’s global head of content Robert Kyncl described the landmark as ‘a massive shift’. Mobile YouTube views accounted for 20% of the site’s activity in 2011 – but that in itself was an even bigger leap.
"Mobile has increased from 6% to 25% in last 18 months across the whole of YouTube," said Kyncl. "We’re experiencing a massive consumer shift."
YouTube announced 60 new, original content channels set for its service earlier this week, and reports suggest that the platform could allow partners to charge users for subscriptions to their channels in the near future.
