Tesco is to close its eight-year-old MP3 download store on September 1 after acquiring a majority of online music streamer We7 earlier this year.
There is no word on whether the supermarket is planning a new download store or whether it plans to switch attention from MP3 to We7′s streaming personalised radio access, which it already links to from its website, paidContent reports.
When purchasing We7, Tesco said the move would offer customers "a wider choice in how they consume music, complementing Tesco's current music offer in store and online".
Tesco's other entertainment ventures seem to be growing, however, as they acquired a majority of Blinkbox last year which offers PPV movies for sale or download on the same day as DVD release.
