Super Audio Mastering celebrates 10th anniversary

Super Audio Mastering is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

The company was set up by Simon Heyworth and has worked in all aspects of audio mastering from CD to high-resolution audio on Blu-ray, DVD and SACD for a decade.

And, according to Heyworth, its service remains as relevant as ever.

“Many of the great legacy catalogues are becoming available as high resolution downloads in stereo and some are available remixed in 5.1,” he told Music Week. “Availability as downloads is due to increased bandwidth, online retailers and more widely available high end players for computers, where output ranges from 44.1kHz to 196kHz (in Stereo).

“So where people are returning to vinyl we have technology for the digital world too which is all good news for the 'Hi-Fi' listener and new income streams for artists and record labels.”

As far as physical product is concerned, Super Audio Mastering has completed its first two Blu-ray discs in 2012 as well as forming SO-Audio (for audio, visual, Blu-ray and authoring) with Neil Wilkes. The collaboration is a bespoke service offering creative and technical expertise for both physical and online products in stereo and 5.1.

Clients include Imogen Heap (5.1 surround sound download), King Crimson (DVD and Blu-ray), Alan Wilder (Blu-ray) and more.

SAM also offers supply of high-resolution stereo, 5.1 masters as well as authoring and encoding (where applicable) for online and physical products.
