The BBC will air a Top Of The Pops Christmas special this year despite the show's long-term association with Jimmy Savile.
Former TOTP presenter Savile is at the centre of sexual abuse allegations, with reports suggesting he may have molested around 300 victims during his lifetime. Scotland Yard has launched a national investigation into the claims.
According to the Daily Mail, BBC bosses will ‘bin hundreds of hours’ of TOTP footage featuring Savile from his 20 years of presenting the show from its archives.
However, the show’s annual special on Christmas Day will not be affected.
“It’s very unfortunate, but it would be disappointing if the disgusting behaviour of one man impacted on the reputation of a legendary show like TOTP,” a BBC insider told the Mail.
