Tributes to a classical great

The former EMI classical chief had been suffering from cancer and a private funeral is be held on Friday (December 17).

Andry was born in Australia where he studied the flute before moving to the UK to study conducting under Sir Adrian Boult. He joined Decca in 1954.

Three years later he moved to EMI as a producer and in 1964 took over management of EMI's international classical division, with responsibility for recordings by Herbert von Karajan, Maria Callas, Placido ...
