The US saw its overall album sales fall by 4% in the first half of 2015, from to 120.9m in H1 2014 to 116.1m in the first half of this year.
Billboard and Neilson sales data shows that CD album sales also fell, by 10%, to 56.6m units, while download album sales dropped by 1% to 53.7m.
In spite of the dreary CD and download figures, vinyl sales grew by 38.4% to 5.6 million units.
