BMG strikes publishing deal with Gilbert O'Sullivan

BMG has signed an exclusive exclusive songwriter agreement with Gilbert O’Sullivan, including his biggest hits featured on Gilbert O'Sullivan: The Essential Collection, the 2016 compilation which was his best performing UK album in over four decades.

After signing the deal at BMG’s London office, O’Sullivan was presented with three UK Official Chart Company Number One Awards, recognising his Number One 1972 album Back to Front and Number One singles Clair (1972) and Get Down (1973), which both spent two weeks atop the singles charts.

O’Sullivan said: “I'm very happy to be joining such a distinguished company as BMG, and look forward to a long and successful partnership, already greatly achieved with the release of original and new master recordings."

Peter Stack, EVP global catalogue recordings UK, added: “We have enjoyed a great relationship with Gilbert O’Sullivan representing his recordings catalog since 2010. We are honored to have extended our relationship to now include his outstanding publishing catalog. Gilbert O’Sullivan is an immense talent, which all starts from his unique song-writing skills.”

The Essential Collection debuted at No. 11, his highest chart position since 1974. O’Sullivan’s 2012 release The Very Best Of - A Singer & His Songs entered the UK albums charts at No. 12 and sold over 60,000 copies, earning him a silver disc.
