The property, formerly known as the Digbeth Institute, was opened as an institutional church 100 years ago and will revert to being know as The Institute under Mama's ownership.

In recent years the Mama Group's Birmingham Barfly venue has operated from the Digbeth property, and as part of the building's refurbishment the Barfly will remain on site with an increased capacity of 600.
