Beggars expands 4AD
Monday April 28, 2008
The Beggars Group is stepping up activity at 4AD, increasing staff levels and the label’s artist roster.
4AD is now headed by managing director Simon Halliday, who came to the group from Warp US at the end of 2007.
Working with Halliday will be the A&R team of Ed Horrox, Roger Trust (currently at Beggars Banquet), Jason White (currently at Too Pure) and Jane Abernethy.
As a result, the Beggars Banquet and Too Pure imprints are being retired, with artists on both labels moving to 4AD.
The first act to do so will be former Too Pure act Stereolab, whose new album, Chemical Chords, which will be released by 4AD on August 18.
4AD will also call upon its own press and online promotions team, headed by Rich Walker (current Beggars group head of communications) and his staff of Hannah Gould, Annette Lee and Rachel Cawley.
This team will also continue to oversee All Press activity for Matador Records.
Beggars Group Chairman Martin Mills says, “4AD has ambitious plans at a time full of opportunity for us. Simon and his team will, I'm sure, take the label's amazing legacy on to new heights.”
