Death comes too early
10:32 | Thursday September 11, 2008
Metallica’s Death Magnetic has been released days ahead of schedule, after retailers broke the Friday embargo on sales.
The album, Metallica’s eight and first since 2003’s St Anger, was originally scheduled for release this Friday (September 12). It is believed that the band’s UK label Vertigo has now soft released the set after a number of retailers put it on sale earlier this week. Representatives for the band, however, insist that the release date remains September 12.
In midweek sales flashes today (Thursday), the album sat at 25, having sold 2,625 copies on CD.
Leading the albums field at the moment is Glasvegas’s eponymous debut (Columbia), which has sold more than 33,000 copies. Ladbrokes has opened a book on which of the two acts will top the charts this Sunday, with Glasvegas originally favourites at 1:2.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Uff! Scotland will win. And Vertigo needs advising help from EMI or Universal.
