US leads global sales fall

The IFPI figures reveal sales in Europe and Latin America were down 6.3% and 4.7% respectively, while sales in Asia rose by 1.0%.

Physical sales were dire, falling 15.4% globally and by 31.2% in the US. Digital music sales grew by 24.1% globally to $3.78bn (?2.6bn), including a 16.5% rise in the US.

Figures from the BPI reveal that album sales in the UK fell 3.2% last year.
