The appointment will take effect from April 9, with Wilkinson taking the reins of the 114-year-old classical music label.
He will report to Frank Briegmann, president of Universal Music Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Deutsche Grammophon, and assume responsibility for all aspects of Deutsche Grammophon from the label's Berlin HQ.
Currently the managing director for Decca Records, Wilkinson previously held senior management and marketing posts within Universal Music for the past 19 years.
