New deal expands music on MSN Video
12:57 | Tuesday August 5, 2008
Microsoft and music specialist VidZone Digital Media have signed a deal that will see Vidzone Digital Media become the exclusive provider of aggregated independent music video content for MSN Video, Microsoft’s free on-demand video service across Europe.
The move means Microsoft has immediate access to an additional 3,500 record labels and a constantly growing catalogue including artists such as Basshunter, Armand Van Helden and Jay Sean who will now be available via MSN Video and on the recently launched Messenger TV.
Music video content supplied by VidZone Digital Media will be made available to MSN Video users across 10 European markets including France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Netherlands and Belgium.
Michael Russo, co-founder of VidZone Digital Media, says “MSN doesn’t just provide a compelling destination for its users to consume music video content, but the company is also helping the record industry monetise what was seen in the past as a promotional element to drive physical sales.”
