2016 CMAs: The winners in full

The 50th annual CMAs (Country Music Awards) took place in Nashville last night, with US country stars Garth Brooks and Carrie Underwood among the night’s big winners.

Brooks scooped the Entertainer of the Year prize, while Underwood was crowned Female Vocalist of the Year for the fourth time.

Chris Stapleton picked up the Best Male Vocalist gong, while country icon Dolly Parton was honoured with the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award.

Earlier this week, Underwood hailed 2016 as a “great year” for country music in a conversation with Music Week, whilst also paying tribute to the enduring influence of the CMAs.

“It’s always good for artists to go and perform the CMAs and maybe open some more people’s eyes as to what they’re doing,” she said. “It’s a wide open playing field right now for artists because there’s just so many different kinds of artist in country music. There are people that are more singer-songwriter or more Americana or more rock influenced or pop influenced. I think that’s one of the great things about country music. It’s not just one kind of song, one kind of artist. There’s a lot of room right now.”
