IMPF's Palma Summit set to return for fifth edition

The IMPF's The Palma Summit returns to Spain for its fifth edition from October 6-8, bringing together more than 750 representatives from the independent music publishing and creators community.

The conference will feature over 70 speakers, including keynotes from Apple’s Elena Segal, APRA AMCOS’ Dean Ormston, BMI’s Mike O’Neill, Walt Disney Studios’ Dan Butler and NMPA’s Danielle Aguirre, with opening addresses from IMPF president Annette Barrett (pictured) and Palma Mayor Jaime Martínez Llabrés.

This year, delegates will take over the Melia Marina Hotel in its entirety, with 330-plus companies from 40 countries represented.

There will also be a special country focus on the Japanese market, overseen by the Music Publishers Association Of Japan (MPAJ) and with the participation of the Japanese Society For Rights Of Authors, Composers And Publishers (JASRAC).

While the event has grown enormously, the purpose remains the same: to put independent publishers, and the songwriters and composers they represent, at the heart of the international conversation

The wider Summit agenda will explore topics including how independent publishers can access financing; the US music publishing landscape; attribution, licensing and AI; global digital royalties across platforms; music supervision; and collective and rights administration. The full programme can be found here.

“I have been so proud to witness the growth of The Palma Summit over its short four-year history," said Barrett. "It has become the global meeting place for independent music publishers, embracing people from hundreds of companies and territories all over the world, affording them the possibility to do business, build relationships and tackle the issues shaping our future.

"While the event has grown enormously, the purpose remains the same: to put independent publishers, and the songwriters and composers they represent, at the heart of the international conversation. We look forward to welcoming everyone to Palma for the fifth edition of this amazing assembly.”

The Palma Songwriting Camp will run alongside the Summit from October 4-8, in collaboration with the European Composer and Songwriter Alliance (ECSA).

An international selection committee has chosen 20 writers – 10 from IMPF member publisher companies and 10 from ECSA – who will collaborate on original tracks before presenting their work at a celebratory playback party, open to all Palma delegates on Thursday, October 8.
