Justin Bieber dominates Vevo’s list of most watched videos of 2016.
The platform today (December 8) reveals its yearly charts, with the Canadian singer hitting No.1 with Sorry (Purpose: The Movement) in the UK, America and worldwide. Bieber’s Love Yourself (Purpose: The Movement) and What Do You Mean? also feature in the UK Top 10.
Sorry (Purpose: The Movement) notched 87,152,761 UK plays, while Love Yourself (Purpose: The Movement) and What Do You Mean scored 65,616,618 and 45,442,430 respectively.
Fifth Harmony’s Work From Home (68,826,339), Adele’s Hello (50,894,044) and The Chainsmokers’ Closer (Lyric) (50,583,787) complete the UK Top 5.
In the worldwide chart, five videos racked up over a billion plays, Bieber’s Sorry (Purpose: The Movement) and What Do You Mean?, Adele’s Hello, Fifth Harmony’s Work From Home and Calvin Harris’ This Is What You Came For (Official Video).
Vevo also revealed year-on-year growth of 26%, with 20bn monthly worldwide views. Mobile usage rose to 48%, overtaking desktop use (44%).
Outside of new releases, David Bowie saw the most views for one artist in 24 hours. On the day of his death, Bowie’s videos were viewed 51m times.
Vevo has also revealed the findings of its Music Audience Report, which include research that found music videos are two times more likely to be shared on social media than audio tracks. It found that just over 50% of users proactively share Vevo content, while 40% are doing so on a weekly basis.
