Spotify free users are now able to use the streaming service via Google Home in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, France and Germany.
This marks the first time that this service has been available to Spotify free users on a voice-activated speaker, as the feature was previously only available to Premium members.
Mikael Ericsson, Spotify’s product director, platform & partner experience, said: “We are incredibly excited that, from today, millions of Spotify’s free users will be able to enjoy Spotify in their homes through voice-activated speakers for the very first time, thanks to the Assistant on Google Home.”
There are still limits for the ad-funded free Spotify service, which will play a station of songs inspired by the spoken request. Premium users can pick specific songs, albums and artists as well as music based on genre, mood or activity.
