Max Lousada, CEO, recorded music at WMG and chairman/CEO Warner Music UK, has been honoured with The Strat at the Music Week Awards 2018. It’s a special award from the Music Week team for an industry icon and pioneer.
As well as developing Ed Sheeran into a global superstar, Lousada’s worked with a huge range of talent throughout his career. Dua Lipa, Warner Music’s latest breakthrough success, presented him with the The Strat during the ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
Here, more of those stars Lousada steered to success congratulate and pay tribute to one of the world’s top music executives – and his friend Zane Lowe also says a few words about the “real music fan” heading up WMG…
“Max is focused, a genius, erratic… You’re either very, very good at numbers or very good at making art, and he’s good at both. Just keep winning."
“He’s always given so much input and so much honesty.”
“There’s a reason why you’re the boss, you get me! Everyone knows how much work you’ve put in, all the work you’ve done, the legacy you’ve built and you’ve still got many more years to go. Big up yourself, Max."
He’s made so many things happen that I didn’t think could even be possible
“He showed faith when no one else would, if he hadn’t done that I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
Mike Kerr, Royal Blood
“He smells good, he’s very handsome and he’s always very friendly to everyone he speaks to. These are qualities he’s probably got off me.”
Chris Martin, Coldplay
“He’s on the Mount Rushmore of music – but he’s everyone.”
“I once asked him what it felt like to know that he’d never be head of a record label… He’s a sexy motherfucker.”
“You are really, truly unbelievable with artists.”
“He’s made so many things happen that I didn’t think could even be possible.”
“You are awesome and you have some great ears and I love talking music with you every time I get to see you.”
“Max is a real music fan, we’ve always chopped it up and talked about records we love. In recent times, of course, we’ve talked about the changing shape of the music business because Max is right at the forefront of that. His love of music is matched only by his can-do spirit – the guy gets the job done. He entirely deserves this award – congratulations Max.”
