Downtown names Delmar Powell VP of A&R

Downtown Music Publishing has appointed Delmar Powell as vice president of A&R.

It follows global expansion for Downtown, which launched in Paris and Sydney this year, alongside existing operations in New York, Amsterdam, London, Los Angeles, Nashville, and Tokyo.

In his new role, Powell will be responsible for signing new artists, songwriters and producers, as well as creating opportunities for Downtown clients and copyrights in the global marketplace.

He will report to Downtown SVP and head of A&R, North America, Andrew Gould.

“Delmar possesses an incredible passion for great artistry and songs,” said Gould. “We are very excited and fortunate to welcome him to the team.”

Prior to Downtown, Powell served as director, A&R urban at Republic Records. He signed and developed Marc E. Bassy, and worked with artists such as Hailee Steinfeld, Kiana Lede, Natalie LaRose, Zendaya and Adrian Marcel. He also represented Republic as the A&R liaison for NBC’s The Voice.

Powell previously held positions at Atlantic Records, TVT Records and Jive Records.
