BBC Music Introducing/SME London unite to host new music industry event in London

BBC Music Introducing and SME London have this morning (May 12) announced that they are joining forces to create a brand new music experience for aspiring artists, musicians, producers, engineers and managers titled Amplify.

Amplify is set to be a three-day event held at London Excel between October 6-8 that will feature 150 masterclasses, 250 speakers and over 150 exhibitors. Among the names confirmed to deliver expert talks covering all areas of the industry are: Annie Mac, Jo Whiley, Steve Lamacq, MistaJam, Jamie Cullum and Phil Taggart.

The event is being held as part of BBC Music Introducing's 10th anniversary, a decade which has helped launch the careers of Florence and the Machine, The 1975, and many more. Scheduled talk sessions include: How To Write A Hit Record, From My Bedroom To Ibiza, Grime Is The New DIY, How To Get A Million Streams and From Garage To Venue Stage.

Speaking about the event, Tim Etchells, managing director of SME London, said: “It’s never been harder to break into the music industry than right now - people don’t know how to get their music heard or where to go for expert advice. That’s why we’ve created Amplify, to guide people through the minefield and help them grab that big break. Never before under one roof have the key industry makers and breakers been ready to sit and listen to music and questions in this way. It’s a truly unique offering that no one who dreams of making it should miss. BBC Music Introducing has been responsible for breaking household names, they are the perfect partner and I’m really excited about discovering the next big talent at Amplify.”

Bob Shennan, director of BBC Radio & Music, added: “BBC Music Introducing has been discovering and supporting the best new artists in the country for the past 10 years, and we are excited to be bringing all the best music industry experience and knowledge under one roof at Amplify this year.”

Other features of Amplify will include the BBC Music Introducing Advice Clinic, which will offer the opportunity to have tracks critiqued by industry experts. Attendees will also be given access to the newest equipment and tools catering for everyone who wants to work in music. Brands that will be on site include Yamaha, Shure and IK Multimedia.

The full line-up for exclusive speaker sessions is to be announced soon. Tickets for Amplify at London Excel are on sale from 9am Friday May 12 here.
