The BRIT Awards announce George Michael tribute

The BRIT Awards have revealed plans for a George Michael tribute.

The news was announced on Twitter this morning (February 22). The BRITs referred to Michael, who died in December, as “a true music icon”. No further details of the tribute have been given.

Set to take place tonight (February 22) at London’s O2 Arena, the BRIT Awards 2017 feature performances from Katy Perry, Skepta, Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, Little Mix, The 1975, Emeli Sandé and Robbie Williams. At The Grammys earlier this month, Adele paid tribute to the late singer by performing his 1996 hit Fastlove.

Music Week will be covering the BRITs on Twitter and on musicweek.com throughout today. In the meantime, read our guide to the show and our writers’ predictions for each category. You can also read interviews with executives about each artist nominated in the Album Of The Year category, David Bowie, Skepta, The 1975, Kano and Michael Kiwanuka.
